Kindergarten Cop (1990)

Kindergarten Cop is a 1990 American action comedy film directed by Ivan Reitman and distributed by Universal Pictures.[4] Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as John Kimble, a tough police detective working undercover as a kindergarten teacher to apprehend drug dealer Cullen Crisp (Richard Tyson) before he can get to his former wife and son. While undercover, Kimble discovers a passion for teaching he never knew he had and considers changing his profession to become an educator. Pamela Reed plays his partner, Phoebe O'Hara, and Penelope Ann Miller plays Joyce, the teacher who becomes his love interest. The original music score was composed by Randy Edelman. The film was released in the United States on December 21, 1990, and grossed $202 million worldwide.[4] A direct-to-video sequel, Kindergarten Cop 2, was released in 2016.

Partnered with former teacher-turned-detective Phoebe O'Hara, Kimble goes undercover in Astoria, Oregon, to find Rachel and offer her immunity in exchange for testifying against Crisp in court. O'Hara is tasked with finding Rachel through her son by acting as a substitute teacher in a kindergarten class at Astoria Elementary School. However, she is incapacitated by a severe stomach flu, so Kimble takes her place.

O'Hara returns to the police force in Los Angeles while Kimble decides to resign, staying in Astoria to become a kindergarten teacher at the school full time. Joyce joins him and they share a kiss while everyone cheers.

"Kindergarten Cop" is made up out of parts that shouldn't fit, but somehow they do, making a slick entertainment out of the improbable, the impossible, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He plays a cop who finds himself teaching kindergarten, as part of an undercover effort to locate a little boy and his mother. There is no way that Schwarzenegger can plausibly teach class, but that doesn't prevent him from finding warm-hearted possibilities in the role - and it doesn't get in the way of several big laughs, either.

The trail leads to a storybook town in the Pacific Northwest, where Schwarzenegger and Reed believe the little boy is attending kindergarten. Reed used to be a schoolteacher, and so they convince the local school authorities to let her teach the kindergarten class - hoping to pick up clues even though the little boy and his mother have changed their names. Then Reed gets food poisoning, and it's up to Schwarzenegger to face the screaming hordes of 5-year-olds.

That happens this time. The scenes involving Schwarzenegger and the kindergarten kids are the best things in the movie, not only because the kids say the darndest things, but also because Schwarzenegger's strong point here is gentle comedy, often with himself as the foil.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's journey from being a fascist, beard- and trenchcoat-wearing motherfucker, who doesn't take any prisoners, to being a beardless, cardigan-wearing, not quite as fascist sweetheart-kindergarten-teacher.

A tough cop (Arnold Schwarzenegger) must pose as a kindergarten teacher in order to locate a dangerous criminal's (Richard Tyson) ex-wife (Penelope Ann Miller), who may hold the key to putting him behind bars.

Hardened police detective John Kimble (Arnold Schwarzenegger) sets up an undercover operation to track down the runaway girlfriend of drug lord Cullen Crisp (Richard Tyson), after she absconded with three million dollars of his drug money. A first-day mishap has Kimble stuck masquerading as a kindergarten teacher, and he is soon completely out of his depth.

John and his new partner Detective Phoebe O'Hara go to Astoria to search for Rachel, with O'Hara planning to act as a substitute teacher in Astoria Elementary School's kindergarten class. After she falls ill, John is forced to take her place and meets the young pupils in the class, including Dominic. He also meets Rachel since she is also a teacher at the school, and although he is at first unaware of her true identity, they quickly become very fond of each other.

Kindergarten Cop is a 1990 action comedy directed by Ivan Reitman and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as John Kimble, an LAPD detective who travels to Oregon in search of the former wife of a notorious criminal he wants to put away. Upon his arrival, Kimble finds himself having to go undercover as a kindergarten school teacher in order to find out the woman's identity. The film's cast included Pamela Reed, Richard Tyson, and Penelope Ann Miller. Kindergarten Cop 2, a DTV sequel starring Dolph Lundgren, was released in 2016.

Arnold does great. I loved seeing the evolution of his character from hard-boiled cop to loving kindergarten teacher. His development with the children is wonderful. I love the first shot of them together when the camera pans high above them and then cut to an extremely low angle of Arnold, capturing their perspectives of each other.

In this action-comedy, unusual circumstances find big, brawny cop John Kimble (Arnold Schwarzenegger) posing as a kindergarten teacher in order to apprehend major drug lord Cullen Crisp (Richard Tyson), as well as his ruthless accomplice and mother, Eleanor (Carroll Baker). While pretending to be a kid-friendly instructor, Kimble falls for pretty fellow teacher Joyce Palmieri (Penelope Ann Miller) as he battles both unruly children and dangerous bad guys.
